8th Circuit Case Reports present all published opinions from the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit: All rulings form the Eighth Circuit are presented. The summaries specify whether state or federal law is applied, and, if state, which state's. Even in cases where the court applies state law for a state other than your own, there is often important procedural information that can be of use to any attorney within the 8th Circuit.
Supreme Court of the United States: All of the Supreme Courts rulings are summarized, but with an †IMPORTANT CAVEAT: due to the nature of Supreme Court cases -- i.e., some are 50-100 pages long, or more -- the summaries are necessarily much more selective than with decisions from other courts. For other courts, we strive to include all relevant facts and every important legal point leading to the court's decision. For U.S. Supreme Court cases, we only attempt to distill the most important points from the case in order to give the reader the gist of what the Court said and did. The reader should not rely on any of our summaries as an alternative to the actual reported decision, but this is especially true for U.S. Supreme Court cases.
